CH-53E Original caption: The CH-53E is the most powerful helicopter in
the U.S. military. It can move massive amounts of cargo, equipment and
people. With its long range the CH-53E can go deep into enemy
territory. It's speed is compatible with assault support escort
helicopters and, with its lift capability, can recover and retrieve any
aircraft or personnel forced down. The CH-53E was involved in the Scott
O'Grady rescue in Bosnia and has been involved in every activity in
which Marines have been called to participate in since then. Prime
contractor is Sikorsky. The CH-53E has a crew of five: pilot and
copilot, crew chief, and two gunners who man the two .50 caliber
machine guns.
